Moving heavy furniture doesn’t have to be a back-breaking job. Whether you’re doing a home move, office clear-out, or warehouse job, the key is staying safe — and using the right equipment, like a good-quality dolly.
Here are five essential safety tips to keep you (and your furniture) in one piece:
1. Plan Your Path
Before you lift a thing, make sure the route is clear. Remove rugs, check for trip hazards, measure tight spaces, and prop open doors where possible. A smooth path means fewer surprises.
2. Use a Dolly Whenever You Can
Lifting heavy items manually increases your risk of strain, injury, and dropping things. A removal dolly takes the weight for you, helps with balance, and lets you move large items without excessive force.
3. Lift with Your Legs, Not Your Back
If you need to lift an item onto a dolly, bend your knees and keep your back straight. Avoid twisting or reaching — lift close to your body and work with a partner for awkward shapes.
4. Use Brakes When Loading or Unloading
If your dolly has brakes, engage them while loading or unloading. This helps keep the dolly steady and prevents movement that could cause slips or damage.
5. Don’t Overload the Dolly
Every dolly has a load limit — our standard models handle up to 180 kg. Going beyond this can affect balance and put stress on the wheels. If you’re not sure about the weight of your load, play it safe and divide it into smaller parts.
Bonus Tip: Wear Gloves!
Good grip and hand protection can help prevent slips and bumps when navigating corners or stairs.
